Hi guys!
Erin here. Just got out of a meeting with the other Moles a little earlier today. Admittedly it was not one of our more productive gatherings. We did, however draw names for a secret santa (bahaha).
Anyway, being that part of our meeting was focused around the point that the boys have both contributed this week but Sarah and I have, well, not, I figured I should at least post something.
Something I like to do sometimes (whether my facebook friends like it or not :p) is post the list of songs I happen to be listening to in status form (typically with iTunes on shuffle). So, instead of putting it on facebook, I'm going to put it here. And instead of simply providing a list, I will tell you what I like about each song. Also, I will link to a youtube video for each song that I can find one for.
- I Run to You by Lady Antebellum - While I don't tend to be an avid country music fan (evidenced by the Moles earlier discussion in our meeting about Taylor Swift), I do appreciate the harmonies in Lady Antebellum's music. Breaking out of the typical country steriotype of being about losing everything and woe is me, this song is about finding a companion in life and having someone to, well, run to. Honestly, though, I really only like it because of the harmonies.
- The Fires of Life by Cool Hand Luke - A friend recently reminded me of this band's existence and inspired me to purchase the album this song was named after. This song is more on the mellow side of things and is very encouraging for those who may be walking through a dark time. Reminding us of what Psalm 30:5 tells us "weeping lasts for a night but joy comes in the morning".
- Umbrellas (8-bit) by Sleeping at Last - Not gonna lie, I just listen to this because it amuses me. Because it sounds like an old school video game. Unfortunately, no link for this one...
- See the Flames Begin to Crawl by Five Iron Frenzy - Who can really resist the syncopated beats and catchy horns that is Five Iron Frenzy? I pretty much adore anything by them, but this song I specifically like because it has a little bit more of an apocalyptic sound.
- Elgar/Something Inside by Steve Erdody & Jonathan Rhys Meyers (August Rush Soundtrack) - I love love love this song! I actually love any song or band that combines classical and rock music. Also, I could listen to Jonathan Rhys Meyers sing forever. The passion that is in his voice contrasted by the more relaxed strings in this song is just amazing.
- Who's Gonna Raise These Babies by Shovels and Rope - Bluegrass Folk. I used to loathe the twang of the banjo and the "hick" sound of the singer's voice when I was younger. This genre has grown on me until it became one my favorites. There's a quality about this song that gives you a sense of routine and real life. Relate-able to many lyrically and overall just fun to listen to.
Well, that's about all I have for now!
Me off.
